Pilates is a powerful form of holistic exercise and an excellent way of promoting a strong mind and body. But without clear guidance and a comprehensive practice program, many of its benefits can easily be missed. The Beginner’s Guide to Pilates shows you how to develop your practice effectively. Starting with a self-assessment to determine your level of physical ability, the book then explains the principles that underpin Pilates practice: breathing, concentration, center, precision, flow, and control. All the physical fundamentals of Pilates practice are covered, detailing the internal and external forces that affect your body. You are then ready to start your Pilates exercise program. Thirty-six step-by-step sequences take you through a complete work-out for body and mind, with hints, tips, and advice at every turn. This comprehensive, fully illustrated guide will open the door to the wide range of health benefits that Pilates practice can bring.
