Andrew Austin began his tai chi practice in 1990 and has been taught by many of its leading practitioners in both the U.K. and China. He has also studied at the Capital College of Physical Education in Beijing and at the Shaolin Temple. Andrew has been teaching tai chi since 1992, and has taught several British champions. He himself has won several British tai chi competitions, and has been highly ranked both in the European and world scene. In 1997, he co-founded the Zheng Dao Lo Martial Arts Academy in the U.K., where he is the Chief Technical Director. In 2002, he was presented with a national award for his contribution to Chinese martial arts by the British National Martial Arts Association.

For decades, more and more people have been discovering the benefits of tai chi: increased vitality, clarity, focus, and inner calm. After a brief introduction to this ancient art, the Beginner’s Guide to Tai Chi explains the tai chi style illustrated in this book—the 24-step Beijing short form—and tells you how to find a teacher, start your practice, and perform qigong, the art of “quiet standing.” It then illustrates all the fundamental stances and hand positions that you will use during your tai chi practice. The full 24-step form comes next, fully illustrated and complemented with hints, tips, and advice on improving your technique. A learning program then provides a structured week-by-week format that teaches the forms quickly and accurately. Clear, concise, and informative, the Beginner’s Guide to Tai Chi will introduce you to all the benefits of this fascinating ancient practice.
