Marguerite Smolen is the author of The Everything Pregnancy Organiser. Previously, as a senior editor at New Jersey Monthly magazine, she was responsible for the magazine’s lifestyle and health editorial. She is also a former contributing editor to Parent magazine’s Expecting magazine, where she was responsible for writing a column on fetal development.
The contemporary design and down-to-earth advice in this book make it an ideal companion for today’s expectant mothers. An informative guide and record book together in one volume, The Birthing Cycle is everything a mother-to-be needs to have to keep informed as her pregnancy advances. Weekly updates track not only the baby’s growth and development, but the mother’s progress, too. Nutrition hints, tips on relaxation and rest, and advice on finding caregivers are just some of the helpful tools included in The Birthing Cycle.

This clear, direct, beautifully illustrated, accessible and compact guide is the complete resource for women going through the ups, downs, bumps and surprises of their first pregnancy. The 40
–week process from contraception to birth is explained in detail, on a week by week basis for both mother and baby. Every stage of development is covered, with advice for after the birth including feeding options and choosing caregivers.

The Birthing Cycle is more than a pregnancy guide, however. It is also a journal and notebook. Pages are provided for jotting down questions to ask during prenatal appointments, listing things to purchase for the baby, and recording feelings and memories.
